Tarni White has been selected in the AFL Players’ Association AFLW 22Under22 squad for the second consecutive season.

The 22Under22 concept aims to recognise the best players in the competition aged 22 or under, with the initial 40-woman squad refined to a fan-voted team of 22 after a week-long voting period.

White, whose first two seasons at AFLW level were spent as a defender, emerged as one of St Kilda’s most consistent players in 2022 after forming part of the club’s remodelled midfield brigade.

From her nine games, the 21-year-old finished second only to Tilly Lucas-Rodd in the Saints’ total clearances, tackles and inside-50s tallies, as well as in the top-five for disposals, metres gained, marks and contested possessions.

White averaged a career-best 13 possessions and seven tackles per game, with her strongest outing (14 disposals, 11 tackles, one goal) coming from the club’s season opener against Richmond.

After her debut season was derailed by her second AFL injury, White has gone on be nominated for the NAB Rising Star, finish in the top-10 of St Kilda’s Best & Fairest for two straight seasons, as well as earn her first Mark of the Year nomination in Round 5 against West Coast.

Voting for the 2022 AFL Players’ Association AFLW 22Under22 side will be open from Tuesday March 15 to Tuesday March 22, with the line-up to be announced on Tuesday 29 March.
