A number of Saints are knocking down the selection door this week in the hope of facing the Hawks in Round 20.

Dan Hannebery 

Since returning to footy via the VFL two weeks ago, Dan Hannebery has made quite the statement. 

Back-to-back performances of 20+ disposals - including a strong return outing with 29 touches in just over three quarters of football - has put the No. 10 right in contention for a seniors call up.

Should he be selected, the experienced midfielder will bring his signature vocal leadership and competitiveness to the Saints’ 22. 

Mitch Owens 

Owens hit the ground running in last week’s VFL match, putting on a best-on-ground display with 24 disposals, seven clearances and five tackles. 

Regarded for his competitiveness in contest and adaptability around the ground, Owens could be the spark to the side that Brett Ratten may be looking for. 

Owens last played for the seniors in Round 11 and will be looking to join fellow draftee Marcus Windhager in the line-up. 

Tom Campbell

Selected as an emergency last week, the Saints could opt to go in tall against the Hawks’ ruck stocks and bring in Tom Campbell. 

While Rowan Marshall had a career-best with 49 hit-outs over the weekend, Campbell could be added support in lieu of the injured Paddy Ryder.

The ruckman has been impressive across the season for Sandringham and has done himself no harm in the selection frame.

In contention 

Despite copping a heavy tag in the VFL, Zak Jones fought through strong opposition attention on the weekend. Meanwhile, midfielder Jack Bytel caught eyes in his second game for Sandringham post-injury. 

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Tom Highmore and Leo Connolly also remain in selection calculations.

Defender Dougal Howard will be at least another week away while he progresses from a knee injury, with the co-vice-captain close to re-joining the main group at training.
