St Kilda will update its iconic Crusader guernsey in Season 2023 with a return to its 90s-inspired roots.
The 2023 iteration will feature the fan-requested, black-back split panel of the late ‘90s, combined with the pinstriped collars and cuffs seen from 1999-2001. The long-sleeved guernsey variant, synonymous with players such as Austinn Jones and Stephen Milne, has returned to all-black sleeves for a classic look.
Despite being introduced as a pre-season jumper in 1996, the fan-favourite design has become a signature St Kilda look in the ensuing years.
The Crusader even replaced the iconic red, white, and black stripes as the Saints’ home guernsey from 1997-2001, making its full return last year as the club’s clash kit.
“I’m rapt that we’ll be wearing this clash guernsey in our 150th year,” reigning Best & Fairest Jack Sinclair said.
“Players like Robert Harvey, Nathan Burke and many others did great things while wearing this jumper, so for us to bring it back and wear it in 2023 is special.
“I know Saints fans love this version of the guernsey and I’m keen to do it proud on-field next season.”
St Kilda will also wear the red-backed version of the jumper for select matches which present a further clash as required by AFL guidelines.
