Zak Jones
31 disposals, five clearances, six tackles
A worthy performance by Jones. Zak had a really strong game. He led the young players by example, competing well in the midfield with notable intensity around the ball.
Lance Collard
Two goals, four disposals, four kicks
Lance fired hard in the first half, kicking two goals, and looked lively when the ball was going inside 50. He was rested in the second half with hamstring awareness.
Isaac Keeler
14 disposals, four hit outs, three clearances
Isaac played a mixture of roles, pushing up a bit higher than usual this week on some of the Giants’ small forwards. After a slower start, Keels found his way into the game and played to our defensive system, jumping in the ruck for some minutes towards the end.
Jack Hayes
14 disposals, eight kicks, six marks
Jack competed well off the ball and strongly in the air. He hit the scoreboard (one goal, two behinds) and pulled up well after the game.
Dougal Howard
18 disposals, 15 kicks, three tackles
Great to have Dougal back, his leadership down back was prominent. He kicked the ball well, made smart decisions and played to our defensive system. He missed a few opportunities, but it was great to see him return in fine form.
Angus Hastie
Nine disposals, six kicks, three marks
As the AFL carry-over, Angus only played a half but was still able to make great impact on the wing. He got involved in our ball movement and jumped back for some defensive minutes also.
Arie Schoenmaker
32 disposals, 22 kicks, eight marks
Arie played the first half as a deep defender, exposing him to the contest. He presented good alertness and intent, before heading to the midfield to take on Callan Ward in the final term, which produced some learnings also.
Tom Campbell
13 disposals, four tackles, 13 hit outs
Tom stood out as a noble leader in Saturday’s match. He rolled his ankle halfway through the second quarter, however continued to play out the match as an 18th man as numbers dwindled on the bench due to other injuries. A great display of team mentality, which we value and appreciate highly at the club.
Olli Hotton
19 disposals, two tackles, three clearances
Olli started in the midfield and later showcased his attacking arsenal, working himself into the game later on with three shots on goal after being brought forward.
Angus McLennan
15 disposals, six marks, two tackles
Angus read cues well, showcased improvement on game-day running and executed our system to a high standard. A strong performance overall, but he can still look to capitalise on opportunities through intercept marks and tackle pressure.
Max Heath
13 hit outs, six disposals, two marks
Tough day for Moose. He battled hard against Preuss before getting concussed heavily in the fourth quarter. He’s under concussion protocols now, which will dictate his availability for selection.
Liam O’Connell
10 disposals, five marks, two tackles
Liam performed well in his first game. He played as a high half-back, showcasing an impressive reaction time. He fits well into our system and gave us an exciting glimpse of what he can do with the ball, which was promising. Great to see him get through his first week of VFL.
FOR THE ZEBRAS
Darby Hipwell
24 disposals, six tackles, two clearances
Once again, Darby had a strong influence in the midfield, with his contest-to-contest work and composure by foot both standing out. He’s put a couple of solid weeks together now, which is really pleasing.
Hugo Hall-Kahan
10 disposals, five kicks, one tackle
Hugo was on fire early on, playing a special first half before unfortunately being subbed off with a broken hand. His role around the structure and pressure at both ends was missed in the final two terms. He’ll be out for two to three weeks.
Tarkyn O’Leary
10 disposals, eight kicks, three marks
Tarkyn played as a high half-forward this week. His running power benefitted us as he was able to get to some great spots. Still some polishing to be done with some missed marks and tackle opportunities, however his strong base was showcased on Saturday.
Vincent Zagari
25 disposals, three clearances, nine intercepts
Vinnie had a great game - nine intercept possessions as a winger was really pleasing. He found the ball throughout the game and was able to hit the scoreboard with a goal. All in all, one of the better players on the day.
