Brad Crouch
One goal, 31 disposals, 12 tackles
Brad had a really diligent game, playing like the contested bull that he is. He was selfless, letting the younger mids get to work. Being the best team player he could be was a focus which he executed. He fought the whole game and I'm glad we had him on our team on Saturday night.
Ryan Byrnes
11 disposals, nine kicks, five tackles
It wasn’t a high-impact game numbers wise but was so diligent on the wing. He played his role and got back for us well as the 'plus one' a lot of the time. It was slippery in the wet and he maybe tried to do a little bit too much with the ball early but acclimatised to the conditions to help us get over the line.
Angus Hastie
17 disposals, nine kicks, five marks
He started off relatively mild - his reaction time was a little slow but like a few others he built himself into the game well. He had some strong moments in the last quarter, particularly a goal-saving spoil on the line where he ran back hard, leaving his opponent to impact defensively. I'm really proud of the overall effort - another tough game against big bodies under his belt as a first-year player.
Mattaes Phillipou
26 disposals, 13 tackles, seven clearances
An improved game for Mattaes. He got his hands on the ball and his last quarter was probably his best when the game was up for grabs, standing up at an important centre clearance that we scored a goal from. Like Hugo, we love his desire to celebrate and be the best teammate possible. I'm pleased with his progression.
Arie Schoenmaker
26 disposals, six marks and three tackles
Arie had a really strong game where he competed hard all day. He put his body on the line a few times in the aerial contest, absorbed a few hard hits but bounced straight back up. He adapted well to the wet conditions, making smart decisions with the ball in hand. A couple of stoppage structures we will look to re-jig, but I'm proud of his effort overall.
Matthew Allison
Seven disposals, three kicks, five tackles
Not a huge game for Matt stats wise. He took a bit of time to get used to the conditions but built into the game where he was a part of a few important one-versus-two contests, bringing the ball to ground to set up scoring shots. Despite not having a great impact himself, he was a good teammate, celebrated well and still worked hard all day.
Hugo Garcia
One goal, 14 disposals, 13 tackles
If we learnt one thing on Saturday, it was that Hugo can play wet-weather footy. Thirteen tackles and high contested-possession numbers, he fought and scrapped all game. He was proactive in his body work around stoppage, I loved his buy-in and ability to stand up for his teammates when getting challenged as well.
Olli Hotton
Eight disposals, five kicks, three tackles
Olli's running was on track to be some of the best since he’s been with us, although he was rested in the final term due to some hamstring tightness. He’s improving in that position as a high half-forward, played his role around stoppage and got to some really good spots on attack for us, but it just wasn’t really a day for clean opportunities.
Angus McLennan
12 disposals, seven kicks, six tackles
Angus played as the No.1 key defender on their No.1 forward which proved to be an arm wrestle all day. Frankston got two goals early in the first quarter, but he was able to turn it around after that, often being the one inside 50 by himself, finding a way to fight and defend until recovery arrived. He’s getting to good spots, it’s just about tidying up the finer details of his game such as hitting kicks under pressure.
Max Heath
59 hit-out, 17 disposals, five tackles
Max competed strongly in the ruck, winning the hitouts convincingly. We will look to work on consistency with hits and connections with our mids, particularly when it’s wet. He went forward for five minutes a quarter and was able to impact in the air. He didn’t hit the scoreboard but competed strongly for four quarters.
Cooper Sharman
Three goals, 17 disposals, five tackles
He took a little time to build into the game and was a bit reactive early in the wet but turned it around in the second half to play some quality football. He took strong marks, clean ground balls and was efficient, kicking the last two goals of the game which shows his ability to execute under immense pressure. He took an important contested mark behind the ball as well when we were trying to save the game. A strong performance overall.
Liam O’Connell
Five disposals, four tackles, one clearance
We thought he adapted well to the conditions in his first night match in the wet and his decision-making was positive in the density of the contest. He got chased down a couple of times as a half-back, which brings a new focus to his game in getting rid of the ball quicker and catching up to the speed of play.
Max Hall
One goal, 15 disposals, nine kicks
A great first-up effort from Max. His running was strong and he looked to problem solve ahead of the ball which were major positives to see. He went forward well, showing us his cleanliness in the wet. He scored a goal in his first game and had 17 new teammates celebrate strongly with him. I'm looking forward to seeing how he improves.
FOR THE ZEBRAS
Blake Watson
19 disposals, nine tackles, five clearances
He played as our fourth mid this week and impacted strongly with nine tackles, six inside-50s and six ground balls to name a few stats. He looked to thrive in the conditions, competing hard and helping to take the ball forward all day.
Hugo Hall-Kahan
One goal, 14 disposals, two tackles
Hugo played as a high half-forward this week. We’re working on finding ways for him to impact when it’s not a nice, pretty day, but he did find the ball and kicked a crucial goal for us which came from strong defence and reading of cues. He’s a really good teammate as he celebrates everyone’s efforts strongly. I'm glad he’s on our team.
