Liam Henry will await scan results this week to determine the extent of a knee injury suffered during Saturday’s 72-point win over West Coast, however coach Ross Lyon has ruled out the worst in a season-ending ACL injury.

Henry was assisted from the field and was unable to put weight through his left leg after twisting awkwardly while attempting to dodge Eagles Tim Kelly and Harley Reid midway through the third quarter, emerging at the break on crutches and with ice on his left knee.

The star recruit had missed six weeks with a high-grade hamstring strain earlier this season following a similarly pleasing win over Collingwood in Round 2.

"I'm not really across it. He's OK, but we're not really sure," Lyon said.

"There's no ACL, there's no ligament (damage), so what is it? Is it a kneecap, a bit of cartilage? But we're better off just investigating and taking it from there.”

Saturday’s win yielded multiple promising signs from St Kilda, headlined by a five-goal performance from Tim Membrey, which also came complete with a career-best 23 disposals and 10 score involvements.

The volume of opportunity for Membrey stemmed primarily from the efficiency of St Kilda’s engine room, which Lyon made sure to praise post-game.

Led by skipper Jack Steele, reigning Best & Fairest Jack Sinclair and Zak Jones, the Saints generated an additional 30 inside-50s over the Eagles (67-37), which were subsequently feasted on by the small forward fleet who accrued a team-high 23 tackles inside the arc against their opposition’s zero.

“I thought our midfield really stood up tonight,” Lyon said.

“Since about Round 12 (against West Coast), we sort of recalibrated what our focus was. I don’t think anyone could question our effort over a long period of time, but particularly from Round 12 on there’s a lot to like with how we’ve gone about it attitude-wise and competing-wise.

“Getting more bang for our buck has been our issue, and Tim (Membrey) gets reward for a lot of hard work up the ground. He’s carried himself pretty well so it’s really pleasing for Tim.

We’ll just enjoy tonight and move on. We’ve got a big challenge with Essendon next week… and their midfield has been flying, so we’ll see how we go from there.

- Ross Lyon

Although sitting in 15th and with finals close to completely out of the equation, Lyon remains steadfast in not letting the club’s remaining weeks go to waste. But should the opportunity to shape the top-eight come into play during that time, a wry “Grinch” Lyon conceded he’d certainly take up the chance to play spoiler.

"It's not a mentality that drives us. We really want to set standards, lay foundations. It's very even. Ifs and buts and maybes with a lot of games. But we just want to play good football," Lyon said.

"Every week, it's such a big battle, AFL football. There's wild gyrations that sit outside in the media, and that's great, because everyone listens, but we just sit in the continuous improvement space, pursue excellence in the near-term and the longterm with a list build and internal structures and personnel, and weekly, our footy.

"That's where we sit, to be honest, but if we can spoil a couple of parties… I like being The Grinch.”
