Mattaes Phillipou is in contention to return to football this week, only needing to pass a fitness test to be eligible for selection.
The 19-year-old aggravated a hip injury in the Saints’ Round 18 clash against Adelaide and was expected to miss up to four weeks, however is in the frame to have potentially halved that recovery period.
“It’s a real credit to our rehab staff and to Mattaes’ professionalism that he’s even close to being in a position to return to play,” EGM Football David Misson said.
“There are still a few boxes to tick at training this week, but we’re hopeful that barring any surprises he’ll play this weekend.”
Marcus Windhager is also flying through rehab, with his return to play timeline down to two weeks.
Zaine Cordy (adductor) and Max Hall (back) still have some time remaining on their recovery, while Liam Henry is recovering after surgery on his knee last week.
