Marcus Windhager will not return to play this season following a setback in his hamstring rehabilitation.
The 21-year-old aggravated the muscle in training last week and will now undergo surgery on Thursday.
“This is a frustrating development for Marcus as he was close to making a return to play,” EGM Football David Misson said.
“The plan is that by getting him in for surgery now, Marcus will have the best opportunity to attack pre-season and set himself up for a full 2025.”
Mattaes Phillipou will need to complete training this week and prove he has overcome the illness which saw him a late out of Sunday’s game against Richmond.
Seb Ross remains in a race against time to return to play this year, while Jack Hayes made a successful return after several months in rehab via the VFL over the weekend.
