St Kilda will head into round one without midfielder Georgia Patrikios as she awaits a final diagnosis for a foot injury.
Patrikios left the ground in the second quarter of the club’s pre-season game against West Coast and now awaits further consolation with specialists this week to assess the impact of the injury on the 2024 season.
“It’s been a frustrating time for Georgia, who had a very strong pre-season,” EGM AFLW Tessie McManus said.
“We’ll be able to provide a more definitive timeline after this week, but it’s looking likely Georgia may miss a significant portion of the season.”
Tall defender Rebecca Ott is also set to spend several weeks on the sideline after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in her right tibia.
“Bec has had a really rough run with injuries over the past two years and this is another disappointing setback after she missed the entirety of last year with an Achilles injury,” McManus said.
“Bec remains an important part of our group, and we know she’ll still have a huge contribution to our culture despite not being on the field in the short term.”
In more positive news, after leaving the ground early in Perth with respective corked muscles, Molly McDonald and captain Hannah Priest are back to full health, while Nat Exon eyes off a return to play in the Saints' first home game at Moorabbin in round 2.
Meanwhile, Steph Chiocci has been making progress in her ACL rehabilitation, while Beth Pinchin has taken great strides in the early stages of her own ACL rehabilitation.
