Bianca Jakobsson is set to spend at least five months in rehabilitation after suffering a significant hyper-extension to her left knee during Sunday’s match against the Western Bulldogs.
Despite initial fears of an ACL rupture, subsequent scans have pleasingly cleared the two-time All Australian of the most severe setback and the need for off-season surgery.
The Saints’ vice-captain will soon commence a five-month rehabilitation program with eyes on a return for the 2025 AFLW Season.
“Although it’s a disappointing result for Bianca, we’re very relieved to see her avoid surgery and a potentially lengthier setback,” EGM AFLW Tessie McManus said.
“Bianca is an integral member of our team and a respected leader who has our full support throughout this process, and we can’t wait to see her back on the track ready for our 2025 pre-season.”
In positive news, Rebecca Ott successfully completed her first AFLW game over the weekend after a momentous 730 days on the sidelines.
“It was fantastic to see Bec run out with the girls on Sunday after such a significant stint on the sidelines,” McManus said.
“Her ability to overcome multiple setbacks the past two years and make the squad is a true testament to her determination and resilience.”
Meanwhile, young gun Georgia Patrikios is set to make greater rehabilitation progressions in the coming weeks as she recovers from a season-ending foot injury.
