Young defender Darragh Joyce has inked a fresh two-year deal, extending his time in the red, white and black until the end of 2021.
The Kilkenny recruit forms part of St Kilda’s next generation of defenders, joining recently re-signed Saints Daniel McKenzie and Callum Wilkie.
“As we look towards securing the next generation of players for the club, we’re pleased to have Darragh as a part of it,” St Kilda List Manager James Gallagher said.
“It’s been really impressive to see how much Darragh has grown over the past three years, and we look forward to seeing that continue into the future.”
From his three senior games in 2019, Joyce has ranked in the top 20% for metres gained amongst tall defenders and notched up an average of 15 disposals and seven intercepts per game.
While most of his football has been played for Sandringham this season, the former Gaelic football and hurling star has become a strong leader down back, utilising his vision and voice.
As he continues to hone his defensive craft and build his confidence, the young Irishman hopes to become a regular fixture in the seniors in years to come.
“I’m really proud to be a part of St Kilda and even more so to be a part of its future,” Joyce said.
“I’ve had so much support along the way and learned a great deal, so I’m excited to put that into practice over the next two years.
“It’s been a journey I never thought I’d undertake, going from one side of the world to the other, but I love this club, and I’m keen to see what we can build together.”
Joyce joined the Saints ahead of the 2017 Season as a Category B International Rookie before making his debut against Melbourne the following year.
