ST KILDA has secured three draft picks in the top 22 after a trade with Geelong.

The deal involves St Kilda forward Rhys Stanley and the Saints’ pick 60 heading to the Cats in return for pick 21.

Pick 21 has changed hands three times in this year’s trade period, having already been used in deals involving Joel Patfull moving to GWS and Allen Christensen moving to the Brisbane Lions.

As it stands, St Kilda’s first three draft picks are 1, 21 and 22, making it currently one of two clubs to have three selections in the first 22.

Stanley played 58 games and kicked 40 goals in a six-year career with the Saints. He was originally drafted with pick 47 in the 2008 National Draft.

St Kilda Head of Football Chris Pelchen said the deal was in line with the club’s list management strategy.

“Obviously the decision to part ways with Rhys was a difficult one but we feel that it provides mutual benefit to all parties. St Kilda Football Club is committed to strategically build its player list and remains determined to increase its opportunities at the top end of the AFL National Draft,” he told SAINTS.com.au.

“To hold three selections inside 22 following on from three selections inside 19 last year represents a clear direction of our commitment to develop the list with young talent.

“Rhys departs the Saints on good terms and we wish him every success for the future.”
