BLAKE Acres and Tom Curren were both injured during Sunday’s VFL win over Footscray and face extended spells on the sideline.

Acres, who has played five senior games this year, collected 13 first-quarter disposals on the weekend before breaking his hand.

The athletic utility is expected to miss 2-3 weeks of football and had surgery last night to repair the damage.

Curren’s prognosis is more serious, the midfielder succumbing to a broken ankle which will rule him out for up to three months.

“He’s having surgery today,” Head Physiotherapist Andrew Wallis said.

“We expect him to miss 10-12 weeks.”

St Kilda is yet to decide whether it will place Tom Curren on the long-term injury list, a decision which could potentially lead to the elevation of a rookie.

In more positive news, Jack Billings (Shin soreness) and Sam Fisher (back) look almost certain to be available for selection this week after both missed Saturday night’s hard-fought loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Fisher was a late withdrawal following back tightness on Saturday morning. He was replaced in the team by fellow key defender Luke Delaney.

“We expect Sam and Jack to be available providing they get through training later this week,” Wallis said.

Billings has played nine senior games this season, averaging 20.3 disposals per outing.
