St Kilda Head of Football Chris Pelchen confirmed the 19-year-old had undergone season-ending surgery.

"Luke had routine surgery this week following some relative limitations with his shoulder in recent matches," Pelchen said.

"He has had an outstanding debut season with the Saints and we look forward to him starting pre-season training with the other players in November."

Dunstan has played 16 games in his first season in the AFL since he was taken with pick 18 in last year’s National Draft.

He was nominated for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award for his performance in his debut match against Melbourne in round one.
