Plays last game of soccer and at 14 decides to pursue Australian football.
November 2003
Drafted by the Western Bulldogs with pick four in the 2003 National Draft from Peel Thunder. Adam Cooney was pick one, Andrew Walker no.2 and Colin Sylvia pick three.
May 2004
An 18-year-old Ray debuts makes his AFL debut in a 26-point loss to Essendon at Docklands. He collects five disposals.
March 2005
Kicks his first AFL goal and plays in first AFL win in his eighth game, against Collingwood at the MCG.
August 2006
Registers a career-high 11 running bounces against Richmond at the MCG.
September 2006
Collects 27 disposals in his first finals appearance – a 41-point Elimination Final win over Collingwood.
May 2007
Plays 50th AFL match, against Collingwood in round eight.
September 2008
Collects 23 disposals in his 75th and final match for the Western Bulldogs, a Qualifying Final loss to Hawthorn. The Bulldogs defeat Sydney the following week and then lose to Geelong in the Preliminary Final and Ray does not play in either game.
October 2008
Requests a trade to another club in search of more opportunities. After meeting with Ross Lyon, St Kilda signs Ray in a deal that sends pick 31 to the Bulldogs in exchange for Ray and pick 48.
March 2009
Makes his St Kilda debut and collects 23 disposals in a 15-point victory over Sydney.
July 2009
Amasses a career-high 39 disposals and 13 marks against Adelaide at Docklands.
August 2009
Lays a career-high 10 tackles in a thrilling one-point win over Sydney at the SCG.
August 2009
After 19 straight wins, Ray plays in his first loss for St Kilda, against Essendon at Docklands.
September 2009
Plays his 100th AFL game against Geelong on Grand Final Day. Ray collects 11 disposals in the two-goal defeat.
September 2010
Plays in drawn Grand Final against Collingwood and impresses with his role on Dane Swan.
October 2010
Plays in losing Grand Final.
May 2012
Plays his 150th game, against Sydney at Docklands in round nine.
September 2012
After spending half the season in the VFL, Ray finishes the year well with a 24-disposal performance against Carlton at Docklands. Melbourne subsequently pursue Ray during the trade period, but no deal is done.
August 2013
Ray signs a new two-year contract, keeping him at the club until the end of 2015.
August 2013
Is awarded St Kilda’s Silk/Miller medal for his 30-touch performance against the Hawks in round 20.
June 2014
After playing every game for the season, Ray is dropped from Alan Richardson’s side.
July 2014
A solid performance in the VFL sees Ray regain his spot in St Kilda’s team
March 2015
Ray badly injures his hamstring in a NAB Challenge match and requires surgery to repair it.
May 2015
After 10 weeks on the sidelines, Ray returns to action via the VFL

Plays his first senior game since 2014 after three weeks in the VFL.
