THERE are some stories that are stranger than fiction and the visual of football’s greatest goal kicker catching a kangaroo in the main street of a country town ranks right up there as one of the more bizarre stories to emerge.

But that is exactly what happened on Thursday when a wayward kangaroo was rescued by the man who has kicked the most goals of anyone at VFL/AFL level, Tony Lockett.

A report in Fairfax Media on Friday revealed that the Kangaroo was spotted hopping along Corbett Plaza on Bong Bong St until Lockett helped catch the animal, keeping it calm until a vet arrived.

Lockett lives nearby in the NSW country town, which is also famous for being the place where Don Bradman grew up before embarking on the most successful cricket career of all time.

Lockett booted 898 goals in 183 games for the Saints from 1983 to 1994 before moving to Sydney where he kicked 462 goals from 98 games.
