Maddie’s Match is more than just a game to St Kilda.

And eager to make amends for last week’s loss, the Saints will be fixed on taking home the four points against Richmond.

The purple, white and black fought bravely against the would-be Premiers, before a seven-goal final term spelled a convincing win for the Tigers.

Richmond brought in seven fresh faces, including Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, David Astbury and Kane Lambert, while the Saints welcomed back injured midfielder Jack Steele and young trio Ben Long, Ben Paton and Nick Coffield.

The standouts...

Rowan Marshall pieced together arguably the best game of his terrific 2019 campaign, amassing 33 hit-outs, 19 disposals, nine marks, four clearances and two Brownlow votes in a stunning display.

Youngster Hunter Clark (23 disposals) added to his glittering highlights reel, while the emerging contingent of Ben Long, Nick Coffield, Josh Battle and Ben Paton showed themselves as important pieces of the Saints’ future.

Stand-in skipper Seb Ross (27 disposals) and Dan Hannebery (23) were strong through the middle, while Josh Bruce topped the club’s goalkicking list with three majors.

Despite being bolstered by seven new inclusions, Richmond superstar Dustin Martin remained best afield with 36 possessions, taking home the Ian Stewart Medal and three Brownlow votes.

It certainly wasn’t a one-man effort as the stellar line-up – minus Jack Riewoldt and Toby Nankervis – stormed home in the last to secure the four points.

Sydney Stack was dynamic with four goals and a Mark of the Year contender, Mabior Chol and Tom Lynch slotted three apiece, while Dion Prestia and Dylan Grimes were excellent in their respective domains.

Moment of the match...

Nicholas Hind booted back-to-back goals in just his third game, electrifying the crowd with his pace and flair in front of the big sticks.

History repeating...?

Seb Ross has pulled in the numbers in his past handful of outings against the Tigers, averaging 32 touches from his past six meetings.

Two of Ross’ recent matches against the yellow-and-black have polled maximum Brownlow votes.

A 21-goal blitz from the Saints in 2017 still brings a smile to the faces of the St Kilda faithful.

In their new colours, St Kilda slotted 14-goals-to-one in the opening half, before the Tigers regained ground in the final term to go down by 67 points.

Round 3 recap…

The Saints were rattled by a sharp and precise Collingwood outfit on Saturday afternoon, going down by 44 points after being dismantled in the opening half.

Brett Ratten’s men couldn’t stand up the Magpies’ merciless pressure in the opening half, and while they managed to mitigate the damage in the second half, it was too little, too late.

Richmond were also left to lick their wounds after being taken apart by a sleek Hawthorn line-up by 32 points.

Last Thursday’s defeat marked the second consecutive week the Tigers were kept to just five goals following a 36-point draw against the Magpies in the season re-opener.

The ins and outs...

Josh Battle will make his first senior appearance of 2020 after being selected as an emergency for the Saints' past three outings.

Nicholas Hind will make way for the St Kilda swingman.

Richmond are set for a substantial boost with the return of Dustin Martin, who missed last week's match against Hawthorn with bruised ribs.

The Tigers are also set to regain Premiership players Liam Baker, Toby Nankervis and Kamdyn McIntosh, with Marlion Pickett, Ivan Soldo, Jack Graham and Daniel Rioli omitted.

The terrific Tigers...

Two Premierships in three years is evidence enough of Richmond’s might.

Damien Hardwick’s Premiership-winning team features at least one All Australian in every line – plus one in coaches’ box – to take the team’s tally to seven.

Dustin Martin looms as the most obvious candidate to stampede through the Saints and rekindle some of the Tigers' cohesion, but in a well-balanced and dangerous midfield, every player looms as a threat.

Trent Cotchin’s class and Dion Prestia’s explosiveness – combined with the often-unsung efforts of Kane Lambert and Shane Edwards – is just a starting point for St Kilda to tackle.

Bachar Houli, David Astbury and Dylan Grimes are there to repel opposition entries and catapult the Tigers into attack, while a hungry Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch lie in wait up the other end.

On the injury front…

St Kilda skipper Jarryn Geary will spend one more week on the sidelines as he recovers from a minor hamstring strain, while Richmond will embrace Dustin Martin after the Brownlow medallist missed last week’s clash with bruised ribs.

Both sides emerged from last week’s matches unscathed.
