Ben Long’s one-week suspension was tonight upheld by the AFL Tribunal.
Long’s bump on Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae was assessed by the Match Review Officer as Careless Conduct, Medium Impact and High Contact.
The club was unsuccessful in challenging the severity of contact, and having it downgraded to low which would instead trigger a fine.
The AFL Tribunal ruled that the assessment of medium contact was correct with consideration given to the potential to cause injury, meaning Long’s one-week suspension stands.
Chief Operating Officer Simon Lethlean said the club would likely appeal the decision.
“We are disappointed for Ben and will strongly assess our options for appeal,” Lethlean said.
"We have until midday Tuesday to submit an appeal and it appears the likely option at this early stage."
If the club fails to have the ban overturned on appeal then Brett Ratten will need to make at least three changes heading into Friday night’s semi final against Richmond after Paddy Ryder (injured) and Jake Carlisle (personal) departed the club’s Noosa hub earlier today.
