SANDRINGHAM suffered its second-straight loss on Saturday, going down to Werribee by 67 points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

A dominant first term by the away team effectively put the result beyond doubt barely half-an-hour into the contest in blustery conditions.

Despite a mini-resurgence in which Seb Ross and Josh Saunders work their way into the contest in the midfield, the 35-point half-time deficit blew out to 76 points prior to the final term and could have been more had Werribee kicked straight.

The Zebras, who prior to last week were unbeaten for the season, remained goalless in the third quarter and were thoroughly outplayed all over the field. Werribee's endeavour in the clinches and foot skills were especially impressive - a fact that was exemplified by Jarred Moore's 32-disposal performance on Adam Cockie.

Sandringham saved face in the last term with four goals and a string of impressive coast-to-coast transitions, but the result was a foregone conclusion and the overall margin a fair reflection of a one-sided contest.

From St Kilda's perspective, Alan Richardson, Nick Riewoldt and a host of senior players were interested onlookers. They would have been impressed with Seb Ross' 33-possession effort in an engine room that was badly beaten, while Brodie Murdoch's pure strength and Daniel Markworth's raw speed on the wing were positives signs.

Dylan Roberton also showed signs of improvement in defence and finished with 15 touches and five marks.

Josh Saunders, who was playing his first VFL game for the season after missing out on senior selection this week, collected 21 touches and utilised his dash well throughout the match without having the consistent influence he or his team would have hoped for.

Like their AFL affiliate, the Zebras have the bye next weekend and despite a disappointing last fortnight, are in fourth position on the ladder and just half-a-game behind Williamstown.
