A successful return to competitive football for Dan Hannebery has accompanied Sandringham’s seamless 67-point triumph over Essendon on Sunday afternoon.

Hannebery (12 disposals, one goal) performed well in limited game-time, but it was just one of many positives for the Zebras, who bulldozed their way to a 21.11 (137) to 10.10 (70) victory at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

Jack Bytel led the charge with 37 disposals, 10 clearances, nine inside-50s and six tackles in his first game back from ongoing concussion symptoms, while Jack Lonie bagged five goals as the game evolved from tight tussle to highlights package.

Sandringham piled on 15 goals after quarter-time after struggling to hit their targets early in the piece, with Cooper Sharman (three goals, six marks) joining Zebras Finlay Bayne, Darby Hipwell, Chris Carey, and Sam Dunell as multiple goalkickers.

Despite Bombers Brayden Ham (36 disposals), Nick O’Kearney (33) and Dylan Clarke (26) evening up the stoppage battle, it wasn’t enough to smother the Zebras’ clinical forward line and continual forward entries.

Josh Battle (24 disposals, eight marks, six tackles) was in good touch and was uncompromising at the contest, Paul Hunter again dominated with 37 hit-outs, nine tackles and a goal, while James Frawley complemented the sturdy backline in his first game since a shoulder/calf setback.

VFL Round 13 v Essendon

Oscar Clavarino (12 disposals, five marks), Darragh Joyce (10 disposals, four rebound-50s) and Matthew Allison (15 disposals, four marks) diminished the influence of the Essendon forward line with ease, nullifying the impact of Essendon’s entries .

Sandringham-listed player Tyson Milne also impressed with his defensive efforts in the backline with 23 disposals and three marks.

The Zebras will look to stay on the winners list when they face the Frankston Dolphins on Friday 16 July at Skybus Stadium.
