Now going on five seasons as the lynchpin of St Kilda’s defence, Dougal Howard is determined to play a key role in seeing the Saints continue as one of the most effective backlines in the league.

After a solid start to the 2023 season, a wrist injury a month out from finals ultimately forced the defensive general on the sidelines and out of the Saints’ September push.

Regarded for his spoiling and ability to both hold his own and work in tandem with fellow defender Callum Wilkie to strong effect, Howard will be determined to reignite both aspects this coming campaign.

Howard first joined St Kilda following 45 games for Port Adelaide, forming part of the club’s 2019 trade haul of Bradley Hill, Zak Jones, Dan Butler and Paddy Ryder.
