The opening nine games of St Kilda’s 2022 AFL campaign have officially been locked in, with the opponents and venues for the remaining rounds confirmed by the AFL today.
A blockbuster Friday night against Collingwood at Marvel Stadium will kickstart the Saints’ season, before a trio of Sunday afternoon matches against Fremantle (A), Richmond (H) and Hawthorn (A) accompany a Saturday afternoon bout with Gold Coast (H).
Matches on the prime-time stage against GWS (Friday 22 April) and Port Adelaide (Saturday 30 April) for the Anzac Appeal Round and second Cairns game respectively are set to follow, with the former to be played at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
The Saints’ return to Victoria will see a match-up against the reigning Premiers, Melbourne, at the MCG, before a Saturday twilight fixture against Geelong back at Marvel Stadium.
Five of St Kilda’s first nine matches will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 and simulcast on Fox Footy; three of which will be aired in prime time.
“Having the opportunity to begin our season at home on Friday night is great for us and our fans, and we’re determined to begin our season on the right note,” Chief Operating Officer Simon Lethlean said.
“No matter the challenges our draw will inevitably present, we are ready to embrace whatever Season 2022 throws at us we are intent on making our members and supporters proud.”
St Kilda will play a total of 12 matches at Marvel Stadium in 2022 – seven of which will come after the bye in Round 12 – and will travel interstate seven times, including for its home game against Port Adelaide in Cairns in Round 7.
The red, white and black will line up against top-eight sides Brisbane, Sydney and Geelong twice throughout the course of the season, along with Fremantle (Rounds 2 and 17) and Hawthorn (Rounds 4 and 20).
Ticketing information and other match-day details for Season 2022 – including dates for Rounds 10-23 – will be confirmed in due course.
