Development Coach Lenny Hayes gives an update on the AFL-listed Saints from the Zebras clash with the GWS Giants in the VFL on Sunday.

VFL MATCH CENTRE: Round 3 vs GWS

GWS 4.6 10.11 15.16 22.19 (151)
SANDRINGHAM 0.1 1.3 4.6 6.7 (43)

Arie Schoenmaker

29 disposals, eight marks, three inside 50's

Played half a game in defence and the second half in the midfield. Won plenty of the ball and used it well, but learned a few lessons around stoppage structure and contest-to-contest run against a strong Giants midfield.

Dan Butler

19 disposals, 14 tackles, five tackles inside 50

His first game for a while and had a real impact playing a high half forward role winning the footy and laying strong tackles. His work rate was really strong and provided great leadership.

Liam Henry

24 disposals, seven tackles, seven clearances

His best game since he’s come back from injury. Proved great around the contest and saw some of his acceleration and burst from congestion which was a highlight.

Angus McLennan

18 disposals, eight marks, five intercepts

Was part of a backline that had a tough day but fought well. Saw some good things in one-on-one contests but was exposed at times as were the others in the backline.

Alixzander Tauru

Seven disposals, three tackles, three intercepts

Great to see him out and play a game. We saw some glimpses of why he was so highly-regarded with his aerial work and attack on the opposition despite suffering a corky that limited him in the second half.

Patrick Said

Eight disposals, two intercepts, two marks

Started up forward and then was moved up the ground to the wing and midfield to try and get him into the game where he showed his strong work rate but wasn’t able to have the impact he would have liked. Hurt his shoulder in the third term that saw him exit the game.
