Blue Ribbon Cup
The Round 20 clash between St Kilda & Hawthorn will contest the Blue Ribbon Cup, a trophy commissioned in memory of Sergeant Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller who were murdered at Moorabbin in 1998.
This will be the 15th contest for the Blue Ribbon Cup in partnership with the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, which was established in 1988 to perpetuate the memory of Victoria Police members who have been killed in the line of duty.
Senior Constable Rodney Miller's son Jimmy, who just weeks old when his father was killed, will present the Blue Ribbon Cup to the captain of the winning team.
A Silk Miller Memorial Medal will be presented to the player voted best on ground from each team by Minister for Police & Emergency Services, The Hon. Kim Wells and Secretary of the Police Association, Greg Davies. St Kilda’s President - Greg Westaway – will vote on Hawthorn’s best player and Hawthorn’s President – Andrew Newbold – will vote on St Kilda’s.
Kim & Greg will also be taking part in a goal kicking challenge before the commencement of the game. Both were pretty keen footballers in their younger days so we invite the crowd at Etihad to support them. There will no video reviews for their kicks with Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucinda Nolan, officiating as goal umpire.
The Blue Ribbon Cup is a very special event that not only pays tribute to our police members who fallen in the line of duty but also acknowledges the work and dedication of those who continue to serve
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation is grateful for the support of the St Kilda & Hawthorn Football Clubs and the AFL for their continued commitment to this cause.

Solider On
The St Kilda Football Club has formed a new charity partnership with Solider On.
Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our physically and psychologically wounded; we will always have their backs. They work to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australia’s wounded servicemen and women, giving those who have served our country the dignity they deserve and the chance to do and be whatever they choose.
It is a partnership that the entire club – from the playing group to our staff and board – have embraced.
This week’s Soldier On representative is Jason Hamilton-Smith. He will be in attendance with his wife Julia and will be introduced to the team before the game.
Jason Hamilton-Smith joined the Army in 2005 as a reservist, it had been a dream of his from an early age to join the Defence Force. He was deployed to the Solomon Islands in 2007, and following that he was approached to join a new company in the Cavalry unit. He joined up and was posted to Brisbane, and then deployed to Iraq for 7 months. He returned home, was put into training and exercises here in Australia before heading off again in 2010, this time to Afghanistan. There he spent 9 months on the front lines and lost two of his close mates.
