There’s a new number on his back after inheriting St Kilda’s famed No. 1 guernsey, but Jack Higgins has eyes on producing much of the same from his dynamic 2023 in red, white and black.

Higgins’ bite at ground-level proved a vital asset in the Saints’ September re-emergence, jagging a career-best 36 goals to take out his first leading goalkicker award.

A lethal partnership with fellow small forward and ex-Tiger Dan Butler yielded a combined 69 majors in 2023 and - although carrying the bulk of the scoring in the absence of Max King that season - is something Higgins will aim to keep just as potent this year.

Although not as much of a high-flyer than the iconic Trevor Barker, the Saints’ new No. 1 has the heart, committing to the Saints until at least the end of 2027.
